Joseph Finger

Joseph Finger (1887–1953) was an Austrian-born architect most active in Texas in the 1930s and 1940s, responsible for a number of Houston Art Deco landmarks.
==Personal life==
Finger was born was born on March 7, 1887 in Bielitz, Austria (now Bielsko, Cieszyn Silesia, Poland) to Henri and Hani Steifter Finger. After finishing high school and technical training, he moved to the United States in 1905.〔 Uploaded on June 12, 2010.〕
Finger settled first in New Orleans then moved to Houston, Texas, three years after. He married Houston-native Gertrude Levy on June 18, 1913. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel in Houston. He belonged to social organizations including: the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Houston Chamber of Commerce, Houston Turn-Verein, the Independent Order of B'nai B'rith, and the Westwood Country Club. Finger was the father of Joseph Seifter Finger, a landscape architect and golf-course designer also locally active.〔
